German Chowder

From the Kitchen of: Aunt Dorothy Burch Peterson Metzger

Ingredients Directions
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 small cans cream of mushroom soup
  • 16 oz sauerkraut, washed and drained
  • 2 large potatoes, cubed
  • 2 large carrots, cubed or sliced
  • 2 large celery stalks, sliced
  • 1 lb smoked sausage (turkey, beef, polska kielbasa, whatever you like)
  • 4 T vinegar
  • 2 t. dill weed
  • fresh mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 c cooked chicken (optional)
Mix together the chicken broth and the cream of mushroom soup. Then, add the rest of the ingredients. Cook until vegetables are tender. Works well in the slow cooker for 8-12 hours or in a large soup pot on the stove top for 1 to 1-1/2 hours.
